Dr. Roy Lirov is a Fellowship-trained Endocrine Surgeon serving Austin, Texas and its surrounding communities. He specializes in the care of patients with thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal disorders, and also cares for patients with a variety of general surgical conditions. Dr. Lirov graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University in 2002. Following graduation, he worked as a research assistant in the laboratory of Dr. Mehmet Oz at Columbia University in New York City. In 2010, Dr. Lirov graduated from Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society in his third year and into the Gold Foundation for Humanism in Medicine Medical Honor Society. At Stony Brook, he received the Merck Manual Award for Academic Excellence, and was the recipient of the prestigious Marvin Kuschner Award. In 2016, Dr. Lirov completed his General Surgery residency at the world-renown University of Michigan, a program consistently ranked among the top in the United States. While at the University of Michigan, he worked in the laboratories of Dr. Gary Hammer and Dr. Mark Cohen, studying adrenal cancer. He has published original research, review articles, and book chapters on disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. During residency, Dr. Lirov was awarded the William W. Coon Award for Excellence in Teaching. In 2017, Dr. Lirov received his board-certification from the American Board of Surgery and completed the Norman W. Thompson Comprehensive Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at the University of Michigan. As part of his General Surgery and Endocrine Surgery Fellowship training, he has performed several hundred operations for benign and malignant conditions of the thyroid, parathyroid , and adrenal glands. He is passionate about compassionate, comprehensive patient care and meticulous operative technique. Dr. Lirov joined Capital Surgeons Group in the fall of 2017 and is delighted to bring his expertise in Endocrine Surgery to our community in Austin, Texas. Dr. Lirov is currently accepting new patients and provides office-based consultations, diagnostic thyroid/parathyroid ultrasound imaging, and image-guided fine-needle-aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules. Dr. Lirov performs hemithyroidectomy, thyroidectomy, parathyroid surgery, and adrenalectomy, and is enthusiastic about employing minimally-invasive techniques where appropriate. His additional clinical interests include emergency surgery, gallbladder surgery, surgery of the colon and small intestine, and hernia repair. Dr. Lirov is a member of the American Medical Association, Texas Medical Association, Travis County Medical Society, Endocrine Society, American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and Gold Foundation for Humanism Honor Medical Society.

Dr. Lirov grew up on the East Coast and spent time in the Midwest before finally settling in Austin. He is an avid sport climber and enthusiastic jazz pianist.
