Surgical Specialties
Dr. Griffin is an accomplished board-certified general surgeon who utilizes her skills to provide comprehensive surgical care, as well as compassionate care to her patients outside the operating room. Her areas of particular interest include:
- Breast disease, utilizing the latest breast-conserving techniques. Her services to detect breast cancer include in-office biopsies, such as Mammotome, stereotactic, and ultrasound-guided biopsies. In addition, she performs the surgical preparation for MammoSite 5-day radiation in-office, as well as lumpectomies and mastectomies. Dr. Griffin also employs a newer technique that yields an improved cosmetic result for mastectomy patients, the nipple-sparing mastectomy.
- Endocrine diseases, including those that affect the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands. She performs laparoscopic adrenalectomies and minimally invasive outpatient parathyroid surgery.
- Oncologic surgery using advanced laparoscopic techniques when best for the patient.
- General laparoscopic surgery, including gallbladder surgery and appendectomies.
- Advanced laparoscopic surgery, including colectomies and Nissen fundoplication for treatment of acid reflux disease.
Education and Professional Associations
Dr. Griffin graduated from the University of Texas at Austin and attended medical school at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Her surgical residency was at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Breast Disease, the Texas Medical Association, the American Medical Tennis Association, and the Travis County Medical Society. She has received additional training in advanced laparoscopic and breast surgery.
Biography
Dr. Griffin is a UT graduate who was eager to return to Austin. When she is not working, she enjoys traveling and participating in outdoor activities with her husband and two sons. She is also an avid runner and triathlete who has completed several marathons, including the Boston Marathon.
