Surgical Specialties
A board-certified general surgeon and Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Clark has achieved a very high level of skill in all varieties of general and laparoscopic surgery. His particular areas of interest include breast surgery and cancer surgery with emphasis in thyroid and colon and rectal surgery. Plus, he has pursued advanced training in laparoscopic surgical techniques for gallbladder and colon surgery. Dr. Clark also performs Lap-Band® surgery to treat morbid obesity.


Education and Professional Associations
After graduating from Harvard, Dr. Clark studied psychology in graduate school before earning his M.D. degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. His general surgery internship and residency were both completed at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, where he was Chief Surgery Resident.

Dr. Clark has been active in shaping Central Texas health care since the 1970’s, having served in many hospital and society positions. He is a member and past-president of the Travis County Medical Society, as well as a member of the Travis County Medical Society Board of Ethics, Texas Medical Association, American Medical Association, Southwestern Surgical Society, Texas Surgical Society, Southern Society of Clinical Surgeons, American Cancer Society (past-president, Texas Division), the American College of Surgeons (Fellow), and the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.

Dr. Clark has served three terms as Chief of Surgery at St. David’s Medical Center and has also served on the hospital’s Credentials Committee.


Biography
This South Dakota native has been enjoying Austin’s warmer climate and practicing as a general surgeon since 1973.
